The Alton Park Development Corporation, Blood Assurance and the Dental Angel Fund Foundation have partnered with Bear’s Barber Shop to host a community blood drive in Alton Park.
The blood drive is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 23 from 2 – 7 p.m. at Bear’s Barber Shop, located at 3427 Alton Park Blvd.
With each blood donation, donors can help up to three patients in need of a life-saving blood transfusion. Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
The Dental Angel Fund Foundation, endorsed by the Alton Park Development Corporation, is giving a voucher for a free teeth cleaning or tooth extraction to anyone who donates blood. The mission of the Dental Angel Fund is to eliminate health threats caused by dental infections and disease by providing financial assistance and educational awareness for uninsured and underserved children and adults.
“The partnership between Blood Assurance and the Dental Angel Fund Foundation takes care of two needs: health needs with dental related illnesses and as well as providing blood for those who need blood in account of a catastrophic event or emergency needs,” said Dr. Elenora Woods, founder of the Dental Angel Fund Foundation.
Bear’s Barber Shop is also offering each donor $1 off a haircut.
All donors will receive a long-sleeved Blood Assurance holiday t-shirt as well as a complimentary snack. Visitors at the blood drive can also register to win a Nintendo Wii. Twenty-one Wii game systems will be given away by the regional blood center on January 4.
Blood Assurance needs at least 400 donations each day to meet the demands of the community. For more information, please visit www.bloodassurance.org or call 423-756-0966.
